Oyster Mushroom Grow Guide

Fresh, kitchen-grown mushrooms in about two weeks — no green thumb required.

Good to know: This guide works for all three colors — Pink, White, and Yellow Oyster. They follow the exact same steps; only their look (and a slight temperature preference) differs. See the FAQ below for "Which color do you have?"

1 · Growing Steps

  1. 1 Soak the block. Take the kit out of the box and place the whole block in a bowl of cool water. Let it soak for 6–8 hours (or overnight) until fully hydrated.
  2. 2 Drain & open. Let excess water drain off. Open the top of the bag and fold it back to expose the surface. Give the surface a light mist.
  3. 3 Find the right spot. Place in a bright room with indirect light, around 60–75°F (15–24°C). Keep it away from direct sun, drafts, and heat vents.
  4. 4 Mist daily. Mist the surface 2–3 times a day to keep it humid. Small white "pins" (baby mushrooms) should appear within 5–10 days.
  5. 5 Harvest. Mushrooms are ready in about 7–14 days when the caps flatten and the edges start to curl upward. Twist and pull them off at the base. You can usually get 2–3 flushes — just re-soak the block (step 1) between harvests.

Which color oyster mushroom do I have?

Pink Oyster — Vibrant pink clusters; prefers warmer rooms (65–80°F / 18–27°C) and grows quickly.

White Oyster — The classic. Mild, nutty flavor; tolerates cooler conditions (55–75°F / 13–24°C).

Yellow Oyster — Golden and vigorous, with a delicate flavor; happiest at 65–80°F (18–27°C).

All three follow the same steps above — only the look and a slight temperature preference differ.

How many harvests will I get?
Typically 2–3 flushes from one block. Re-soak the block between flushes and keep misting — later flushes may be slightly smaller but just as tasty.
Why aren't my mushrooms growing?
Usually one of three things: the block dried out (mist more often), the room is too hot or cold (aim for 60–75°F), or it needs more fresh air (open the bag a bit wider). Patience helps — pins can take up to 10 days.
Can I grow this indoors?
Yes — that's exactly what this kit is designed for. Kitchens, counters, and desks with indirect light work great.
Do I need any special equipment?
No. Just water, a bowl for soaking, and a spray bottle for misting. Everything else is in the kit.
Is it safe around pets?
Oyster mushrooms are non-toxic to cats and dogs. Still, keep the kit out of reach so curious noses don't nibble — and always cook mushrooms before eating.
